BEAUTIFUL LIGHTING IS ABOUT MORE THAN WHAT YOU SEE.
As October settles in and the evenings get shorter, most of us start to notice the lighting in our homes.
When the clocks fall back on November 1, Maine homes will spend a lot more of their waking hours under artificial light. That makes the quality of that light more important—and it’s one reason low-voltage lighting has become one of the most requested upgrades in high-end homes.
Done well, low-voltage lighting doesn’t call attention to itself. It highlights architecture, brings out the character of natural materials, creates warmth and depth, and makes a room feel better without making the lighting itself the focus.
WHAT IS LOW-VOLTAGE LIGHTING?
SMALLER FIXTURES. MORE DESIGN FREEDOM. BETTER LIGHT.
Low-voltage lighting runs on a reduced-voltage current from a small power supply, called a driver, rather than standard household wiring.
That allows the light source itself to be remarkably small and discreet: thin LED tape tucked beneath a cabinet, a slim channel recessed into a ceiling, a soft glow along a stair tread, or illumination hidden inside a shelf.
You see the light—not the fixture.
Low-voltage lighting also works particularly well with lighting control. Systems can dim smoothly, and many can shift their color temperature throughout the day—from a warm, amber glow in the evening to a brighter, cooler white on a gray February morning.
The result is lighting that can respond to both the space and the way you live in it.
TWO LIGHTING LINES WE’RE EXCITED ABOUT
LUTRON AND LUCETTA BRING DIFFERENT STRENGTHS TO LOW-VOLTAGE DESIGN.
Atlantic AV carries several low-voltage lighting lines, including Lutron and Lucetta—two brands we particularly like for high-end residential applications.
Lutron
Lutron has been a leader in lighting control for decades, and its fixtures are designed to work seamlessly with its control systems.
Its Intelligent Lighting family offers three levels of performance:
- Lumaris provides tunable white and warm-dim capabilities, becoming warmer as it dims to create the feeling of candlelight or a fire.
- Rania delivers a broad range of natural white light and now includes flexible tape light for applications such as stairs, mirrors, and under-cabinet lighting.
- Ketra is Lutron’s top-tier light source, offering an exceptionally broad color range and outstanding color accuracy—particularly valuable for artwork, architectural details, and fine finishes.
Lutron also offers downlights designed to install through a finished ceiling, making sophisticated lighting upgrades possible even in existing homes.
And because the lighting integrates with Lutron RadioRA 3 and HomeWorks, individual fixtures can become part of a larger whole-home experience. A single keypad, scene, or app can transform the lighting throughout a room—or an entire home.
Lucetta
Lucetta is a favorite among architects and designers for its approach to linear lighting.
Designed and manufactured in Reno, Nevada, Lucetta offers a wide range of solutions, including rigid recessed channels for clean architectural lines, flexible fixtures that can bend around curves, high-quality tape lighting, and backlighting panels that allow materials such as stone and onyx to glow from within.
It’s also particularly well suited to millwork, including cabinetry, built-ins, and bookcases.
Lucetta offers Lutron-compatible drivers as well, making the two product lines a natural fit for projects where sophisticated lighting and control need to work together.
LIGHTING SHOULD BE DESIGNED AROUND THE ARCHITECTURE
THE BEST LIGHTING OFTEN DISAPPEARS INTO THE DETAILS.
Low-voltage lighting may look simple once it’s finished. Getting there, however, takes careful planning.
Where should the light fall? How much illumination does the space actually need? What color temperature works with the materials and finishes? Where should the drivers be located? How should the lighting be controlled?
These decisions can make the difference between lighting that simply illuminates a room and lighting that changes how the room feels.
That’s why we approach lighting as part of the larger design of the home—not as an afterthought.
Whether you’re highlighting architectural details, illuminating a kitchen, creating a soft path along a staircase, showcasing artwork, or adding atmosphere to a bar or entertaining space, the goal is the same: put the light where you need it and let the technology disappear.
THE RIGHT LEVEL OF SERVICE FOR YOUR PROJECT
FULL-SERVICE LIGHTING DESIGN—OR SUPPORT FOR THE TEAM YOU ALREADY HAVE.
Every project is different. Some homeowners want Atlantic AV to manage the entire lighting experience. Others already have an electrician or builder they trust and simply need the right products, design expertise, and programming.
We can work either way.
Full Service
We handle the lighting design, product selection, installation, and programming—from the initial concept through the final scene setting.
Design + Programming
Already have an electrician you trust? Keep them on the job. You purchase the product through Atlantic AV, your electrician handles the wiring, and we provide the lighting design and programming to make sure the finished system performs as intended.
Either way, the result is lighting planned with purpose—designed around your home, your architecture, and the way you want to experience the space.
LIGHTING IS PART OF THE BIGGER PICTURE
WHEN LIGHTING, SHADING, AUDIO, AND CONTROL WORK TOGETHER, THE HOME FEELS MORE INTUITIVE.
Low-voltage lighting is just one piece of a thoughtfully designed home technology system.
Pair it with whole-home lighting control, motorized shades, audio, video, climate, and smart-home control, and the individual pieces begin to work together as one experience.
Morning light can wake up with the house. Shades can adjust as the sun moves across the room. Lights can shift with the time of day. Music can follow you from room to room.
The technology is there—but you don’t have to think about it.
That’s the difference between adding technology to a home and designing technology into it.
THINKING ABOUT LIGHTING FOR A BUILD, REMODEL, OR REFRESH?
LET’S DESIGN THE LIGHT—NOT JUST INSTALL IT.
Whether you’re building a new home, renovating an existing space, or simply looking for a better way to illuminate the home you already love, Atlantic AV can help you find the right combination of products, design, control, and service.
Come experience the difference in person at our Brunswick showroom, or schedule a consultation to talk through your project.
We’ll help you find the right light for your home—and the right level of support to bring it to life.
